How To Build Your Own Link Wheels

I am discussing link wheels using Web 2.0 web sites but first let me state that making money online isn’t always as easy as some marketing gurus claim. However it is certainly possible if you are willing to follow a workable strategy.
Okay, the goal of a link wheel is to get back links from authority sites to your money site so you can make money.
Okay I heard that, sorry I thought you knew.
What is a Link Wheel?
Basically a link wheel is created by linking web 2.0 properties, or web sites, to one of your money sites and then linking each of your web sites so that they all create one-way links to each other and that money site.
Not sure what Web 2.0 really is? Checkout Web 2.0 on Wikipedia, just close the window or tab when you’re done and you will be right back here.
The hub of the wheel is your money site, as you will see in the image below. The Web 2.0 sites are the spokes for your wheel and the links from each Web 2.0 site to the next creates the outer wheel.
An important thing to know about link wheels is that they do require work in order to work effectively. This means you either put in the time creating the content you need to make this work for you or you hire someone to create the link wheel for you.
I work from home making my living online and I have the time to create my own link wheels but not every one has this luxury. If you are pressed for time or maybe just a bit confused about the whole link wheel thing then you should maybe hire someone to do this for you.
First let me explain a little more about link wheels and how to construct one and then you can make the decision to create it on your own, hire someone or just forget about it all together. At least you will be informed about the choice you maike.
The image below is a simple example of a link wheel I created using just six Web 2.0 web sites to link to one of my money sites, but you certainly don’t have to limit yourself to just 6 sites. Of course you can increase the size of your link wheel over time.

Can You Just Show Me How To Create A Link Wheel?
Yes I can do that. When I first looked at creating a link wheel I decided against it because I got confused just looking at it. After the info had been sitting in my head going around in circles it started to become a little clearer so I thought I would give it a go. It wasn’t that hard to get started at all, but it did require work.
Step One: Create Your Money Site
The goal is to get links to your money site so first you need a money site. Take your time and make your money site something that people will want to stay on long enough to click something other than the back button.
Step Two: Draw Out Your Link Wheel
Using the link wheel above as an example create your own link wheel. This is going to help you stay on track as it can get a bit confusing if you don’t draw it out.
Note: Each site you want in your link wheel will have to have an account setup. So if you choose Squidoo as a spoke in your wheel then you need to create a Squidoo account, if you don’t already have one.
It’s important to know that none of your sites are going to link to each other in a reciprocal way but instead all links will only be one way links.
Step Three: Setup Your Web 2.0 Accounts
Starting with the first Web 2.0 site create an account. Once you have an account set up move on to setting up the second account and then the third. Keep going until you have your 6 Web 2.0 accounts setup.
Note: All your Web 2.0 accounts will point to your money site. That’s kind of important or none of this will work. But not all the Web 2.0 sites link to each other, they will be one way links only.
Hope this isn’t too confusing: Web 2.0 site #1 is going to be linked to your Web 2.0 site #2, but your #2 site does NOT link to the #1 site.
Web 2.0 site #2 will link to site Web 2.0 site #3, again site #3 does NOT link back to site #2. Continue on linking each Web 2.0 site to the next without linking back at all.
Step Four: Create Content For Each Web 2.0 Site
About Your Content: Search engines like natural content so it’s important not to try stuffing keywords into your content. Be natural like you are really talking to a human. I am sure you know how annoying it is when someone keeps saying the same thing over and over, well search engines look at content in a similar way.
About Your Links: Search engines like to see links to sites that look natural as well, so don’t make all your anchor text or linking text the same.
If I find your site interesting and choose to link to it from my site I would use different link text than someone else that linked your site, not everyone will use the same text so you shouldn’t either.
Know that you need some good content and varied link text you are ready to start adding content to your Web 2.0 sites.
Think It’s Too Much For You To Do Yourself?
If time or skill is a factor then I would suggest you invest a little money and have someone create a link wheel for you. Of course you still need that money site to start with but other than that they can save you a lot of time and effort.
Keep good stats on the sites in your link wheel so you can if it’s working and how fast it works.

Link Wheels Added

We just added Link wheels to the SEO Partner service.
What is a Link Wheel?
Link wheels refer to the practice of linking external social web 2.0 sites (also called parasite sites) together in to a linked wheel to support your ‘hub’site. This hub and spoke marketing is not new and we have been using this technology for high rankings for a long time.
Link Wheel Diagram

 Link Wheel Linking Structure

 This linking structure will have less power than link wheel structure, but there are also more advantages.

The advantage is that this structure has more randomized pattern than link wheel and if some of the web 2.0 properties get banned, you will only loose some part of the link juice and backlinks. With link wheel, when your wheels is broken then you will suffer significant loose of link power.

Another advantage is that your properties will have less chance to be banned by the web 2.0 properties.

Developing A Link Wheel

 This is one of the most imaginative uses of web 2.0 sites. Here is the idea: 6 independent web 2.0 sites, all with high Page Rank values, create a back link to your website. And each of the "spokes" create a backlink to it's neighbor - creating the wheel. The "hub" is any page on your site.

The authority comes with from a extremely focused group of web sites, with elevated Page Ranks, all focusing on your site. The goal is to focalize an extensive amount of authority on one keyword phrase at a time - to promote that phrase up in the search engines.

Creating Content

On each of the 6 sites on the outside wheel we include content (preferably unique content optimized around a single theme - a single keyword phrase.

If, for example, your web site is about pet supplies. And one of your pages deals with pet grooming. What we would do is to create 6 articles dealing with "pet grooming". They might be 6 unique articles on per grooming or an article that has been spun. Within each of the 6 articles we would add two links. One to the page that we are promoting on our site. And the other to the next spoke in the wheel.

Next, we want to aggressively promote the wheel so it is picked up by the search engines.

1. Do Social Bookmarking for each of the 6 web 2.0 properties and the page on your web site.
2. On each of the web 2.0 sites, capture the RSS feed. Then submit the feed to multiple RSS directories.
3. Ping the RSS feeds
4. If you are given a sub domain on the web 2.0 properties, submit it to a number of directories

The Power to Expand

The simple 6 spoke Link Wheel can be very formidable on its own. But you can magnify the power of the wheel even more. Let's say that next month you want to add on to your hub. What we can do is build another wheel, but this time we could make the page that we previously created on Squidoo.com the focus - creating more authority for that page - which, in turn, passes greater authority back to your web site. You can keep adding as you wish - using Blogsome.com as the hub next month, etc. There are no limitations.

 SEO Link Wheel Explained

Link wheels involve using 5 or more unique web 2.0 sites with high  page ranks and using those sites to create a backlink to your site.  The “spokes” of the link wheel include a link to another unique web 2.0 site which forms the wheel. The “hub” of the link wheel is any page on your web site. This should be your squeeze page, offer page, or “money site”.

The concept of this is to have a tightly focused group of unique web 2.0 sites with high page ranks all pointing to your site. This will give your site authority and relevancy for the keyword term or phrase you are looking to rank high for in the search engine result pages. The focus should be placed on giving authority to one keyword phrase at a time to promote high in the search engine result pages.

Below are a few web 2.0 sites you can use to create a link wheel:

    * Squidoo
    * HubPages
    * Wordpress.com
    * Blogger
    * LiveJournal
    * Blogsome
    * Weebly
    * Quizilla
    * Vox
    * WikiSpaces
    * WetPaint
    * Tumblr
    * DevHub

What Do You Put In Your Link Wheels?

Depending on the unique web 2.0 sites you use to build your link wheel you should focus on adding unique content. This could include articles that are focused around one unique keyword term or phrase.  I like to mix mine up and put video content, podcasts, images, etc to give it more value.

Next you want to embed in your articles or in your content a few backlinks. Your link should be an anchor text of the keyword phrase or term you want to rank high for in the search engines. This link should be going back to your main hub page in the center of the link wheel. The next backlink should be directed to your neighboring  web 2.0 property that is part of your link wheel. Look at the images below of some examples:
